Just a short drive from Essex County, NJ, New Paltz is the perfect destination for a weekend getaway. Accommodations range from charming bed and breakfasts to a few basic but decent hotels. It's best to book your B&B early, as they tend to fill up quickly and most have a two-night minimum stay. Airbnbs are another great option, and if you're lucky, you might find one in New Paltz itself. If not, nearby towns like Gardiner and Rosendale are just minutes away and offer their own charm.

Friday Evening:
Arrive in New Paltz and settle in for the weekend. For dinner, you're in luck—downtown is home to a wide variety of excellent restaurants, offering everything from casual bites to fine dining.
Saturday Morning:
Start your day with coffee at one of the many cute cafes on Main Street in New Paltz. Then, take a scenic drive to the Mohonk Preserve, where you'll be treated to breathtaking mountain views and a selection of easy-to-moderate hiking trails. The parking lot even has porta-potties for convenience.
Saturday Afternoon:
Explore the unique shops at Water Street Market. Browse the stores, grab a bite to eat, or pick up a wine and cheese platter to-go. Head back to your BnB or Airbnb and, if the weather’s nice, enjoy your treats outdoors! Alternatively, visit one of the local cider farms for a tasting—sip on a flight of flavorful hard ciders while taking in the picturesque surroundings.
Saturday Night:
New Paltz boasts a wide range of dining options, from vegan to meat-lover's fare and everything in between. If you’re up for it, make the short drive to Kingston for even more restaurant choices and vibrant nightlife.
Sunday:
Spend your Sunday wandering around downtown New Paltz, where you'll find charming galleries, boutiques, and artisan shops.
